Employment History

 

1994 to present     Coppin State College. Assistant Professor of Media Arts. Baltimore,  MD.

 

Create, coordinate and execute curriculum for 97 majors in Media Arts Program in the Department of Humanities and Media.   Integrate media technology into the curriculum by producing interactive documents for the World Wide Web, to supplement the academic experience.  Produce multimedia presentations that highlight and demonstrate information introduced in the classroom.  Train students in media authoring and production to include television/video production, sound recording, HTML, TV programming, public relations, advertising, and multimedia.  Teach a full load (four) classes each semester in both upper and lower division as needed.  Assist, advise, and create with students media presentations such as press releases, television shows and multimedia for the college as necessary.  Serve on faculty committees such as departmental fundraising, co-curricula, student advisement, recruitment, social, budget, faculty information technology, public relations task force, faculty senate, web initiative in teaching, and other services as necessary.  Recruit, advise and assist students on an ongoing basis.  Locate, invite and coordinate appropriate guest speakers.  Acquire and complete contracts or grants from outside corporate and government agencies for media production.  Present papers and research to assist faculty and scholars.  Obtain internships and professional experiences for students.  Procure, repair and maintain equipment for media program.  Support on campus Cable/Web Radio as needed.

 

 

1994 to present     Eubie Blake National Museum &Cultural Center. Director. Baltimore, MD.

 

One of two persons who coordinated cultural enrichment programs.  Also consulted on computer technology, produced theater musical with high school students.  Recruited, hired, and supervised staff for programs in jazz performance, theater, dance and art for low-income secondary school students.  Student attendance and participation was among the highest of all programs sponsored by the Center.  Received accolades from staff for consistency, attention to detail, request fulfillment and follow through.  Continue to work as Webmaster, event coordinator and security guard.

Taught courses in video production, studio television production, and in the humanities for various Native American Community Colleges.  Produced archival tape with tribal elders, promotional tapes on the various colleges and taped public cultural ceremonies.   Worked for one month over the summer in 1990 and started full time in 1992 after graduation.  Studied traditions and history of 6 distinct Indian nations.

 

 

1989 to 1992         New York University.  Resident Assistant.  New York, NY.

 

Responsible for overall quality of life and safety for college students who lived in residence hall.  Presented media shows, led meetings, organized support groups, asked by supervisor to foster staff development.  Won awards for leadership and creative programming.

Taught courses in both film production and theory for high school students during summer college preparatory program.   Supervisor noted that students under my direction completed twice as many films as former office holder.   Chaperoned group to various sites of interest.

Escorted American high school students during summer for relief project to build a library and nursery school.  Served as liaison between nationalities and as resource person on culture and history.  Directed construction activity.

Worked database to provide EEO statistics to the entire university.  Assisted Vice-President in planning and executing college wide activities related to minority students.  Supported office in meeting the unique needs of various cultures.

 

 

1987, 1988             Blythe & Company Program Director. University of California at Los Angeles.

 

Helped establish program in film studies and film production for high school students on the campus of UCLA.  Taught courses in film history, theory and criticism.  Advised students on film production and college admission.  Chaperoned group to various tourist sites including Stanford University and the University of California at Berkeley.  Students were thoroughly prepared for admission and coursework at the collegiate level.

Responsible for accurate reports, and supervision of work-study students.  Ensured timely mailing and completeness of admissions packets.  Advised potential students on admissions process.  Generated monthly status reports for the office.

Established computer database for finance in the Department of Film/Television.  Supervised work study students, generated monthly reports, explained to professors and staff the procedures for proper acquisition of materials.
